about

I wrote this song early in quarantine around the height of performative allyship in the form of black squares on social media being used to protest police brutality against black people and sudden interest in Juneteenth. 🥴

The thought was "Ok...so...if you do finally 'get it' if we focus our collective frustration together, maybe things will change."

However, much like the abrupt ending of the song, police are still killing black people and that "allyship" didn't last long.

UGH!

lyrics

If one mad they gone probably call him crazy
If two mad they gone probably call them shady
If more mad they gone probably call the Navy
Looking over at the man and he smiling like Da Baby
Sitting near the ceiling while we inches from the floor
Clearance at their entrance but it's wrenches in our door
Let 'em quote the Raven never more, never more
If we ever get our effort all together for the war
Hey
Black lives should matter at a minimum
They fearing black guys and acting like some imbeciles
Don't act surprised they scared of black women too
Say her name, say her name in your interviews
(Wow) You got some black friends that you listen to
(Now) The Rona got a lot of things missing
You would normally dip in when our execution in the news
If you an ally, here's what you can do

If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both pissed off and ain't giving up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both pissed off and ain't giving up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up

Naw we ain't a monolith
Don't care who your mama 'nem is melanin is targeted
Don't nobody care what you started with
Don't come with respectability politics
Pretty sure Elijah had a belt on
Breonna was sleeping. They should arrest them
Murderers. They act like they ain't heard of us
Until bricks flying through their windows
Hold up, when the police department call you a target
It's hard to say a riot ain't a bit cathartic
Call it unrest because sleeping's hardest
When you're under attack. Now let me grab this harness
Rip it off me. Ain't gon' let these people dog me
Whitewashing Martin like "speak softly"
Naw, he quoted God saying "Justice should roll
Like the waters"
Get with it or get washed

If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both pissed off and ain't giving up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up
If we both pissed off and ain't giving up
If we both flip the table, then we'll lift it up

Either I'm a genius or I'm highly delusional. I think it's the former, which probably proves the latter.
